(1) Flotilla Day 6 - Wrights Marina - Britt ON: Long day - included some rough waters on Georgian Bay. Small marina with almost no town. Overate, again, at pot luck dinner with the fellow flotilla Loopers.
(2) Flotilla Day 7 - Sportsman Inn - Killarney ON: Small fishing town - used to be only accessible by boat. New owners just took over the inn - a really neat old type sporting lodge. Lots of current - held our breath as each looper boat docked - guess you could call it entertainment at the risk of offending our fellow boaters. All of us have been there - so we know how it feels! Dined at Henry's Perch Bus - a red bus that served fish & chips.
(3-5) Flotilla End - Municipal Marina - LIttle Current ON: Lots of goings-on as it is the Haweater Festival - a celebration based on the Haw berry which we understood was very bitter. Never did see a berry to test! Attended an antique car show, small (really small) street fair, cardboard boat race

& horse pull where teams of 2 Belgian horses attempt to pull 3000+ pounds of cement. Winning team pulled 8000 pounds - twice what the 2 horse team weigh. Learned a lot about these pulls as we watched from the announcer's booth. The week-end ended with a bang - a boat light parade & spectacular fireworks.

(6) Anchorage - Baie Finn ON: Really bittersweet as all the flotilla members continue on their individual journeys. Heard Baie Finn was a beautiful spot to anchor between the limestone cliffs - so cruised back 15 miles. Took Restless Spirit up the bay as she was smaller - lunched with John & Tonia - Mike & Vicki. Hiked up to Topaz Lake - a deep lake up in the limestone hills. Disappointed - long rigorous hike, swimming access was difficult, lake was not as spectacular as we heard.
Wind changed directions in the middle of the night sending 2-3' waves on our stern. Rafted with 2 other boats with a stern anchor thus we did not turn. Were all up at 2:30 AM checking things out!
(7) Municipal Marina - LIttle Current ON: Was not our destination - awaiting Little Current bridge we cut our lines on our props while towing our dinghy. Captain had to dive (used his new hooka rig) to cut lines off shaft & then buy new lines to hoist the dinghy back up on the swim platform.
(8) Anchorage - Benjamin Islands ON: Found a serene, beautiful cove in South Benjamin Island - surrounded by pink granite hills. The stars at night were spectacular as there are no city lights for miles & miles! Hiked up the hills the next morning to view our boats - SeaSeaQ4 & Drifters.
(9-10) Municipal Marina - Gore Bay ON: Nice small town with neat stone houses. Was able to grocery shop, get a hair cut, & other chores.
(11-12) Municipal Marina - Meldrum ON: Nothing here except a few boaters & an Inn where we had lunch; stuck a second night due to high winds.
(13) Drummond Island Yacht Basin - Drummond MI: Bittersweet as we left the North Channel of Canada & cruised back into the USA. Customs clearing was easy but being back into the USA did not mean we had Internet or cell phone coverage!
(14-17) Municipal Marina - Mackinaw City MI: Took ferry over to Machinac Island - site of Grand Hotel where "Somewhere In Time" filmed & no motorized vehicles on the island. Toured island by horse & buggy - enjoying nature & Victorian summer homes. Fudge is the big thing here - it is everywhere!
(18-20) Municipal Marina - Charlevoix MI: Great tourist town on a lake. Checked out Earl Young homes on our bikes - known as "mushroom homes."

(21) Jacobson's Marina - Frankfort MI: Another great Michigan harbor town.
(22) Municipal Marina - Manistee MI: Quaint town with lots of fishermen docked along the river. It is salmon season here - saw some big ones being cleaned along the riverwalk. There are serious fish cleaning stations here. Took in a movie at an old 1941 theater.
(23-25) Harbor View Marina - Ludlington MI: Great marina & town to be stuck in due to weather - cable, pool, hot tub, shopping, cheap homecooking, etc. Salmon fishing big time here - basically a flotilla of boats going out at sunrise & sunset - half of marina goes out. Fish cleaning stations are cages with stainless tables & large disposals that grind the bones.

Last remaining coal burning carferry - Badger - docked right in front of our dock. Amazing to watch the monster enter the harbor & spin in the narrow area to dock.

(26-28) Manitowoc Marina - Manitowoc WI; Woke at 6 AM for the 60 mile cross lake voyage - still dark so we waited for twilight. Must have been over a hundred fishing boats that started to leave at 4 AM. Lake crossing took 6 hours & was just a little rolly with 2 footers. Manitowoc known for ship building like Burger Boats & WWII submarines - 28 built for war. Toured sub Cobia at Mariners Museum - must have been a claustrophobic experience for 80 men on board - imagine they slept on cots on top & under torpedos. Rented a car with Vicki & Mike (Drifters) to tour Door Country - a pennisula between Lake Michigan & Green Bay. Name is from "Death's Door" - the passage from the Lake to Green Bay where many boats were wrecked. Toured wineries & enjoyed Scandanavian towns - lunched at Swedish restaurant where goats eat grass on the roof - check out http://AlJohnsons.com
(29-30) Harbor Centre Marina - Sheboygan WI: Lake was the flattest we have seen on our short 27 mile cruise. Little disappointed as we expected Sheboygan Brats everywhere - they are a little difficult to find - actually eating establishments are few here in this quiet downtown. Very quiet here - not even many people walking around.Stayed 2 nights due to lake's high wave forecast of 3-6 feet - plan to do an art museum today. This is the home of Kohler that makes bath fixtures - it is a really big plant with a 3 story show room of products - not planning on visiting.
(31) Milwaukee WI: Took bike ride through water front park - marina was some distance from town. Below is the Milwaukee Art Museum. Celebrated our 39th anniversary with Loopers on Wild Turkey & Colonel's Lady at Karl Raitz German Restaurant - probably the best sauerbraten I've had in a restaurant.
